Almeria is situated Almeria desde la Alcazaba in the center of a Bay at the foot of the Gador Mountain range, it is protected by some limestone formations. On one of these impressive peaks is the Alcazaba and fortress of San Cristobal.
How to get there:
By the Autovia (Highway) del Mediterraneo, the Highway N-324 that unites Granada-Almeria or alternatively along the N-340 coast road. Also by rail and plane.
The first settlers came from the prehistoric era. Due to its strategic location in the Mediterranean, the hill of the Alcazaba or Almeria, has been the home to several different civilizations. Archeological evidence shows hundreds of examples of Bronze Age settlements.
The Argar, Tartessians, Pheonicians, Carthaginians and Greeks also lived here. From the III century the Romans established themselves in this area calling it Port Magnus up to the arrival of the Visigoths in the VII century. In the X century Abderraman III ordered some Yemeni Arabs to watch the coast to impede the entrance of the Normans, they did this from a watch tower also called "Vigia" or "Atalaya" this tower was called Al-Mariyat, the name of Almeria is derived from this tower and was founded by a settlement of Ibero Urci in the XI century, Almeria was the International Port of Al-Andalus. The climate of Almeria is subtropical, Mediterranean, warm and dry, the best place to spend the winter.   See more photos.
